Military Medical Evaluation

Merchant Mariner Physicals

Merchant Mariner physicals are a type of military medical evaluation also known as military physical examination. They are required for admittance to the U.S. Coast Guard. Military medical evaluation may also be required for grade raises if an applicant hasn’t completed one within three years of applying. Merchant Mariner physicals determine if the examinee is healthy and free from medical conditions and/or physical limitations that might prevent them from performing their duties or affect vehicle operation.

Periodic Health Assessment Physicals

Periodic Health Assessment (PHA) Physicals are a type of routine physical examination required by the military. They are designed to keep servicemen and women physically fit and medically ready to deploy at any time. They look for warning signs of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. PHA physical exams typically must be completed every year.
