Covid-19 Q&A
What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a very contagious upper respiratory disease that originated in Wuhan, China. There’s no cure for the virus, but with early intervention and treatment, it’s possible to reduce the risk of severe complications.
Anyone can develop symptoms from COVID-19, but it’s especially dangerous for people who are 65 and older or with compromised immune systems.
To help protect their patients and the community, the team at Dunia Health Clinic proudly offers COVID-19 vaccinations to adults and teens.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
Symptoms of COVID-19 include:
- Shortness of breath
- A dry cough that gets worse over time
- Fever
- Chills
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Muscle aches
- Discoloration of your fingers or toes
Some people with COVID-19 also experience gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting.
How is COVID-19 diagnosed?
At Dunia Health Clinic the team offers several types of testing to diagnose COVID-19, including:
Diagnostic COVID-19 tests
A diagnostic test determines if you’re infected with COVID-19. During this type of test, your provider swabs your nostril or the back of your throat to collect a sample of mucus. The on-site laboratory tests your sample for the presence of viral proteins. Most people receive the results of their diagnostic test within a few hours.
COVID-19 antibody tests
An antibody test determines whether you’ve been infected with COVID-19 in the past. During this type of test, your Dunia Health Clinic provider draws a sample of your blood. Technicians at the on-site lab analyze your sample for the presence of antibodies –– proteins your body produces to fight the virus.
If your test comes back positive, it means you’ve been infected with COVID-19 at some point in the past.
Is there any way to reduce my risk of COVID-19?
Yes. The easiest way to reduce your risk of COVID-19 is to receive a vaccination. Vaccinations teach your immune system to identify and destroy viruses or bacteria before they make you sick.
No vaccine is 100% effective, but it can significantly reduce the risk of severe symptoms or potentially life-threatening complications. Following an exam and a review of your health history, your Dunia Health Clinic provider can administer your COVID-19 vaccine on-site.
